The Great Barrier Reef- is on Townsville’s doorstep and no visit to Townsville is complete without seeing its underwater surprises. Whether it is day trips to view the spectacle from a glass bottom boat, swimming, diving or snorkelling.
The Great Barrier Reef Aquarium- largest living coral reef aquarium in the world, 3,250,000 Litre world of living breathing coral, underwater discovery tunnel, shark and predator feedings, touch tanks. Located next to Museum of Tropical Queensland, approx. 400 metre walk from Strand Motel.
Billabong Sanctuary – an interactive wildlife sanctuary, these are just some of the things you can do hold a koala or a baby crocodile, wrap a python around your neck or pat a kangaroo. Bus transfers available from the motel.
Castle Hill- 300 meters high. Walk or drive at sunrise or sunset – magic! Approximately 1.5 kms from The Strand Motel.
Jezzine Barracks- a significant site for both the Australian military and local Aboriginal People. The 15-hectare heritage precinct commemorates the military and Aboriginal heritage of the Kissing Point headland through 32 specially commissioned public artworks, extensive interpretive signage and the restoration of significant elements of the Kissing Point Fort complex. The Barracks are located a leisurely 20 minute walk from the Strand Motel

One of the events held each year is the PBR (Professional Bull riders) final where twenty-two riders all eager for glory as they strive to overcome the power of the most extreme bucking bulls in a head to head battle of power, agility and the fight of the fittest 8 seconds at a time over the course of 2 nights of competition. Day trip to Magnetic Island- just a 20 min ferry ride away. When you arrive at the island you can jump on the bus and check out some of the island’s 23 beaches, most of which are untouched with access via walking tracks or by road. You can also hire a scooter or a topless car and explore the Island for yourself.
Day trip to Charters Towers- Previously known as The World, Charters Towers is a city built on Gold. The streets are a museum, with their rich array of historic buildings, including one of Australia’s first regional Stock Exchanges.
